斯特灵大学足球队成为苏格兰Lowland足联成员

Stirling University FC has been accepted into the newly formed Scottish Lowland Football League.

The University team, which previously competed in the East of Scotland Premier Division, has been named as one of 12 clubs to join the new league which kicks-off for season 2013-2014.

A football club was first established at Scotland’s University for Sporting Excellence in 1969 and currently comprises six men’s teams, who compete in student competitions and across senior and amateur leagues.

Stirling joined the East of Scotland leagues in 2008 after establishing a football scholarship programme in partnership with Falkirk FC. Gaining promotion to the top East tier in 2009-2010, Stirling University FC has finished second, first and second in consecutive seasons.

The club, managed by former Falkirk FC manager Eddie May, has helped a number of former professional players complete a degree alongside their football, with many returning to the professional game.

Goalkeeper Kevin Walker, 21, was between the sticks when the University side won the East of Scotland Premier Division in 2011-2012 and has recently joined Livingston FC, whilst the current squad includes one-time Stirling Albion midfielder Liam Corr and former Celtic U19 goalkeeper Ryan Marshall.

Raleigh Gowrie, Sports Performance Manager at the University of Stirling and first team secretary, said: “Stirling University FC is delighted to be part of the new Scottish Lowland Football League. This is an exciting opportunity and one which rewards the commitment the University of Stirling has shown to developing football in Scotland. We are passionate about developing the game and will continue to support the work of the Scottish FA wherever possible.

“Preparations are now underway to prepare the squad to compete in this league and we would like to thank colleagues at Active Stirling, Stirling Council and Stirling Albion for their continued support. The players, coaches and support staff at the Club are looking forward to the season getting underway.”
